Back in 1997 Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft and it was merged with other MSN services. Many Hotmail users have stayed loyal over the years and they cherish their vintage-sounding email addresses. If you have forgotten your Hotmail password then there is a simple way to get back access to your account. Without further ado, the following are password recovery steps for Hotmail users.
Step-1: Go To Outlook.com Login Page and Click “Can’t Access Your Account”
If you can’t remember your password then it’s highly likely that you are stuck on this page. If not just go to the Outlook.com login page and click the link that reads Can’t Access Your Account.
Step-2: Enter the CAPTCHA Code and Email Address Before Clicking Next
In the following page, you are required to enter your Hotmail Email address and then type in the CAPTCHA security code in the respective fields. Once done, click on the blue Next button below.
Step-3: Select a Password Reset Option
From here on there are two ways you can recover your forgotten password, via Email or Phone. Now, for the Email recovery to work you need to have an alternate Email address already registered with Hotmail. If not you can choose the phone recovery option. This tells Hotmail to send a security code to your registered phone number to help you get back access to your account.
For People Who Don’t Have a Registered Alternate Email or Phone Number
Step-4: Follow the Steps to Get To the Password Reset Option Page
Now, there is a good chance you don’t remember the alternate Email ID or have never registered a phone number. If that’s the case you need to click I Can’t Use Any of These Options.
Step-5: Enter Your Email Address and a Contact Email Address
This opens up a fresh page where you need to enter your Hotmail Email address and a Contact Email Address where people from Microsoft could reach you. Once done, you need to click the Next button.
Step-6: Fill In the Online Form
This will open up an online form. Here you need to enter all the required details. Try and fill up as much as you can before submitting. Microsoft evaluates the information provided and then decides whether you are the genuine user or a hacker. If successful Microsoft sends you an email with further directions.
